Increased renewable energy in power grids has reduced the load factor of coal-based power plants. Independent thermal power producers face regulations to shut plants or operate at reduced load. However, there are grid stability and availability issues with solar and wind power. To address both, existing thermal power plants need to operate flexibly. In this mode, a plant quickly ramps down from 100% load to as low as 30% and ramps back up, based on renewable surplus or deficit, respectively. This deviation from actual design parameters leads to thermal mechanical stresses in equipment, impacting equipment life and site personnel safety. Material residual life is studied under such adverse operating conditions. Challenge is handled by modeling and simulating wide variations in steam process conditions on thick-walled piping. Autodesk Fusion 360 and Autodesk CFD software help us understand transient thermal behavior. This talk will focus on new business prospects, and how to predict equipment life and ensure grid stability.

Projects today need one or several persons to ensure that digitalization, data flow, collaboration, and intelligent models are set up and working. This session will discuss the most-common roles—digital collaboration manager, building information modeling (BIM) manager, and BIM coordinator—and the expectations and responsibilities of these different roles. In addition, we'll look at how Fornebubanen Metro has standardized how nine different BIM coordinators work, how we've managed their different personalities to fit with the standardization, and how they've advanced in practice through a project that has lasted for 12 years and has 10,000 models in BIM 360 and 12 federated models in Navisworks software. We'll see how their work has ensured a model-based project from start to finished construction, and how important their roles are to connect the design to construction. Their work has taken model-based construction to a new level, ensuring more value for all parts of the project.

This session will discuss a company's successful shift from 2D construction to 3D construction. By capitalizing on advanced digital technology, the company was able to transform its traditional 2D construction process into a more efficient and accurate 3D construction process. The new 3D process involves the creation of detailed 3D models using building information modeling (BIM) software, which allows for improved visualization, coordination, and communication between different stakeholders. CAD data is the most important intellectual property that a manufacturer has. Autodesk offers products that create, manage, and enrich this data. Both Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) play unique and valuable roles in supporting the life cycle of building and infrastructure projects. BIM provides detailed information about buildings and infrastructure assets while GIS provides information about those assets in the context of the natural and built environments and other vital factors, such as demographic, socioeconomic, and environmental considerations. The integration of BIM and GIS enables the project or asset to be visualized, monitored, and assessed in that real world context.
