Prototyping while developing a new product design is critical to ensure delivery of higher-quality parts to market. This step in the product design cycle is, however, typically time-consuming and costly through iterating and purchasing/making individual parts. This is why many product designers have already turned primarily to digital prototyping rather than physical prototyping, so they can ensure on-time product delivery that doesn't break the bank. This class will focus on how you can utilize Fusion 360 and its extensions for digital prototyping, focusing on an Autodesk Factory assembly product. Consumer electronics is a fast-moving segment, where time and collaboration is critical to be ahead of the competition. We'll demonstrate how to effectively experiment with product design alternatives, collaborate with key project stakeholders, test layouts for PCB, simulate structural and manufacturing aspects, and render final product previews, all within Fusion 360.

Looking for an easy way to add wireless communications to a project? Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee? Wireless electronics is considered by many to be a dark art, even electrical engineers! However, today’s modular hardware and simplified software resources has made it possible for even nonelectrical engineers to successfully add wireless communications to their designs. This course is for mechanical engineers, industrial designers, architects, and software engineers looking to control objects wirelessly or gather data from devices or systems remotely. Spend time with us learning to add Wi-Fi to your next project! Using Eagle, we will build a small sensor-based system that posts data to the cloud and responds to commands from your browser. Some familiarity with embedded software platforms, including Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or similar will be helpful but is not required. Familiarity with breadboarding concepts will also be helpful.

This course is an intro to electronics design using Autodesk EAGLE and focuses on practical electronics for the non-EE.Spend 60 minutes learning about the design and fabrication of the most fundamental of elements in any electronic system, the Printed Circuit Board (PCB).In this course, we will learn what a PCB is and even design our own PCBs from scratch.We will learn the range of modular electronics options available which simplify electronics design and make design accessible for non-engineers.

Electronics can be difficult to design due to the reliance on various assembly components. Add to that the occasional need to swap between various software applications when designing specific components, such as the PCB, it can become difficult to get everything sync’d up and a more wholistic picture of the design. This class will showcase how a part designer can use Fusion 360 for everything from part design, PCB design, and even manufacturability.

Many of the products we design and finally use are developed in mechanical CAD software. However, in almost all products, you’ll also find an electronic part. Without them, most products would be pointless. With the two Autodesk programs Fusion 360 software and EAGLE software, these two worlds grow together. This class will provide insight into the world of electronics. We intend to explain very basic things: What is a printed circuit board (PCB) and how is it manufactured? Which electronic components are used? How is an electronic layout created in EAGLE and how can a mechanical engineer use, change, and create a layout in Fusion 360? These basic questions will be explained using some illustrative examples.

We invite customers who have a need to simulate thermal management of electronics to attend this roundtable. We plan on discussing and discovering common electrical computer-aided design (ECAD) and mechanical computer-aided design (MCAD) workflows, going from ideation, conceptual layout, and final design. Thermal management fits in this design process throughout and we will present some mockups on how we see the next generation of simulation fitting into the design process. In this class, we'll use the case study of designing a lab power supply. This is a common tool in electronics and by working through its design, we'll highlight how the electronics workspace, e-cooling simulation, and mechanical modeling can all be capitalized on to simplify and expedite the production of this product. As we go through the case study, we'll clearly demonstrate the benefits of having all of these tools in one application—namely, faster product development with fewer rework cycles.

The challenge that all electronic designers encounter is acquiring or building components that will be used in their products. The added variant to this already elaborate process is building or generating 3D models that need to be associated for effective mechanical modeling. For this presentation, we will be showing techniques used to build electronic component footprints with associated 3D models. We will also teach you how to create 3D models of electronic components using Fusion 360 software.

Modern consumer products and industrial machines are made up of hundreds or thousands of components to form large assemblies. These components could be machined, 3D printed, molded, electrical, electronic, or off-the-shelf items using various manufacturing and design processes. Effectively managing these assemblies can be a real challenge for companies with multidisciplinary teams that simultaneously contribute to the project from all Autodesk Fusion 360 workspaces. This technical instruction will provide attendees with techniques and methods to improve their development processes when creating large assemblies. Such methods will include: simplifying into subassemblies, using top-down or bottom-up modeling where appropriate, using the manage extension for data traceability, and simplifying geometry with configurations to reduce the load on the PC. You will learn new and improved ways to optimize your product development and collaborative processes.

During Autodesk University 2021, we shared a developed workflow for how designers can bring data together through designing the part, the PCB (printed circuit board), and even how to manufacture the plastic components. With the complexity of electronic part designs, there are often various aspects that we need to consider in order for the part to both work and perform as expected. In this class, we’ll demonstrate how the Autodesk Fusion 360 workflow has matured to incorporate mechanical engineering aspects to smooth this product design workflow. We’ll use a sample product, the Autodesk University Digital Badge, to demo how to integrate mechanical design requirements and simulation into the product design process.
