Generative design is a hot topic, but existing manufacturing methods like casting and injection molding seem to be hiding behind the curtains. This presentation will focus less so on additive manufacturing and more so on mass manufacturing methods currently being used industry wide. By leveraging existing generative design technology with casting and injection molding best practices, we can re-shape how current product design for manufacturing workflows can be achieved. By demonstrating the capabilities of new generative design technology, this talk will expose the new feature enhancements showcasing a realistic approach to the manufacturing and product design world which can be implemented into product design and manufacturing workflows today.

During Autodesk University 2021, we shared a developed workflow for how designers can bring data together through designing the part, the PCB (printed circuit board), and even how to manufacture the plastic components. With the complexity of electronic part designs, there are often various aspects that we need to consider in order for the part to both work and perform as expected. In this class, we’ll demonstrate how the Autodesk Fusion 360 workflow has matured to incorporate mechanical engineering aspects to smooth this product design workflow. We’ll use a sample product, the Autodesk University Digital Badge, to demo how to integrate mechanical design requirements and simulation into the product design process.

The goal of this class is to explain what Fusion 360 software is, what is new, what is coming, and also to share how subscribers of Product Design Suite 2015 can take advantage of the software’s functionality. Fusion 360 software is a cloud-based 3D CAD/CAM tool for product development that enables product teams and stakeholders to work together within an integrated design, engineering, and fabrication experience across platforms and devices. In this new way of working, users have the context to understand all aspects of a project and to collaborate with anyone and everyone, at any time. With Fusion 360 software, gone are the days of traditional data management and fragmented ways of working together on design projects.

"Sustainability" means many different things to different manufacturers. In some cases designers and engineers strive to make a product perform with greater energy efficiency. In other cases they focus on making the product easy to recycle at the end of its life or they design out restricted substances with advanced material selections. Regardless of the focus, the design and detailed-engineering phases hold many opportunities to decrease the environmental impact of a product. Innovative design and production practices are rapidly changing everything we touch on a day to day basis, as well as how these things are created. Autodesk's Product Design Suite gives design teams the tools they need to push the boundaries of existing design processes. This session (segment?) will follow the use of several Product Design Suite design and visualization tools in a typical product design workflow, and will highlight the strengths of Intel's hardware solutions throughout that process.

Designing plastic parts can take up a lot of time and be prone to errors. In this session, you’ll learn how to use Autodesk Fusion 360 Product Design Extension to automate time-consuming and repetitive tasks using manufacturing-aware features such as Boss, Snap Fit, Web, Rib, and Rest. We’ll demonstrate the best practices for using plastic part rules to control your design and capture know-how for easy creation, editing, and reuse. In addition, we’ll share tips and tricks for creating complex geometric patterns and use presets.

Sabic is a major manufacturer of long fiber filled polypropylene. These long fiber filled plastics can be used to produce light weight structural components with excellent structural properties. Light weighting products is particularly important in the Automotive and Transportation industry, where weight reduction is a major driver for improving fuel economy and reduces the overall carbon footprint over the product life. To leverage the high strength-to-weight ratio, the design of the products have to account for the manufacturing process. The Autodesk Moldflow 2012 release includes the ability to calculate the orientation of long fibers during the injection molding process, which is the main component in understanding the strength characteristics of the products. The understanding of the strength of the products can then in turn be fed back into the design to optimize the design of a lightweight, yet strong, plastic product.
