Learn how to reduce time and improve the quality of surface models in Civil 3D software using geographic information system (GIS) data. The Autodesk and Esri partnership has spurred advances in surface modeling that fuel collaboration between civil engineers and GIS professionals. Newly developed tools simplify the processing of triangular irregular network (TIN) surfaces originating from Civil 3D and formation of complementary terrain data sets within ArcGIS Pro. Surface model data propagated into ArcGIS web feature layers then establishes both a system of record and an avenue for two-way synchronization extending into Civil 3D. In this class, we'll walk through key steps of surface modeling workflows and show how the new tools facilitate ground assessments and visualization in multiple environments. Civil engineers and GIS professionals will come away from this class better equipped to jointly participate in design workflows for existing and proposed ground.

In today's rapidly evolving landscape, BIM usage for structural engineering production intersects with analysis and design, interdisciplinary coordination, documentation, construction administration, and beyond. Awareness of both current mainstream practices and emergent technologies is critically important for structural teams to remain competitive and vibrant. This class will take you inside the daily BIM workflows of an industry-leading structural engineering firm. In this session, we'll cover practical use of Revit software for structural projects, we'll explore use of innovative structural design tools that integrate with the Autodesk BIM ecosystem, and we'll examine actual case studies of successful projects using these approaches.

This presentation will be a case study of the award-winning Calgary Cancer Centre (CCC). This project entails a tower and podium and has a $1.4 billion budget. We will examine the integration of digital modeling and cloud collaboration processes involved in delivering an award-winning building. Our main challenges were communicating effectively between the project team(s) during the design-build process, and effectively using cloud-based platforms to optimal efficiency to provide our deliverables. There was an extensive scope that we had to deliver on time and within budget. The project team had to determine a workflow to manage more than 90 Revit models via the cloud platform (BIM 360 software). The cloud infrastructure enabled us to effectively communicate with internal and external project teams to exchange information. The presentation will be full of many simple yet effective examples to help elevate your workflow and efficiency levels.

See how Model Coordination was used on the Portland International Airport (PDX) to coordinate design partners, trade partners, and general contractor as-built scans. This class will discuss the philosophy of our use, and the setup and maintenance process, as well as lessons learned along the way. The project joined Autodesk Cloud Services in January 2019 in order to handle the sheer number of team members and data that needed to be coordinated across all teams. The decision to use Model Coordination was heavily targeted toward the leadership group for both design and owner. These folks are not Revit users but are integral to the design process and direction. This platform allowed them to see the design as it developed and offered a unique lens previously unavailable. It also gave them the freedom to explore the design and investigate areas of the building with ease. The platform was used very effectively in regular coordination meetings, client meetings, and client-driven meetings.

AEC is one of the most collaborative industries yet struggles to leverage technology to collaborate in real-time. In a cloud-first world, we'll discuss how it is changing. This talk will discuss the future of BIM (2.0) and how to leverage it today in conjunction with existing workflows from solutions like Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud. We will explore how real-time collaborative design leveraging emerging AI workflows could help the AEC industry leapfrog the inefficiencies we currently have to live with.

The XR team at Autodesk will join an architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) customer to lead this hands-on session where you'll learn about practical methods for hosting more-effective design reviews in today's hybrid work environment using extended reality (XR). You will learn how to easily connect project data into XR and how to manage headsets. You'll discover the best virtual reality (VR) use cases for fully remote, hybrid, and conference room settings, you'll see some screensharing best practices, and more. The customer will then guide the class in sharing a recent project and the practical VR workflow their company uses today. The outcome: better project clarity, better stakeholder engagement, and more-efficient design reviews—all making alignment easier and objectively more fun!

Want to learn more about how to preserve cultural heritage and memory within a scan-to-BIM process? This class is for you! We’ll go deep into the real practice used for digitizing Ipiranga Museum, located in Brazil’s São Paulo, the 12th most populous city in the world. A Brazilian history museum, Ipiranga Museum is a symbol of eclectic architecture and contains a vast collection of furniture, documents, and historically relevant artwork. Discover how to explore reality capture to generate and detail accurate models, including, in this case, both the Museum's Monument Building and Independency Park where it is situated. We will cover the many potential integrations among ReCap Pro software, Revit software, Civil 3D software, InfraWorks software, and BIM 360 software, and demonstrate the ongoing results of this project. These are the first steps toward developing a digital twin for an existing historical asset, with the conclusion planned for 2022.

This session will introduce LotSpec, an Option Management add-in which automates “Lot-Specifics” within Revit and AutoCAD Architecture. We will be interviewing a LotSpec user from Smith Douglas Homes. The session will discuss the pain points home builders face and how LotSpec can help ease the burden of site specific architecture. We will cover how LotSpec can automate the process to improve organization, project management, and estimating by providing concise drawings. LotSpec uses a rules-based workflow to assign logic to project elements. The automation process assists in eliminating combination errors and reduced red-lines.

Carleton Immersive Media Studio (CIMS) has been involved in the 3D modeling of judicial evidence for homicide cases since 2015. The lab has refined its modeling workflows based on the established use of reality capture (photogrammetry) and BIM (Building Information Modeling) to model artifacts and buildings. Working with the coroner’s office, CIMS has incorporated newer forms of 3D modeling and real-time rendering to establish a standard for displaying digital representations of photographic evidence in a courtroom setting. In this class, we’ll cover our modeling process, starting with analyzing evidence to presenting the data in a user-friendly format. Utilizing Maya software, we’ll model a series of anatomical base meshes that we’ll then manipulate to show inflicted injuries. Next, we’ll texture map the models in Mudbox using photos as reference. Finally, we’ll combine the pieces in Unreal Engine using a template. The addition of blueprints and widgets complete the final product.

You can have the flexibility of 2D AutoCAD software when you need it, and the automation power of Inventor software when you're ready. In this presentation, we'll see how you can move from 2D to 3D at your own rate. We'll show you how to reuse your legacy 2D data in a 3D workflow, and how to repurpose your 3D data as 2D drawings for your customers. AutoCAD and Inventor work better together, for 2D + 3D workflows.

Owner requirements are becoming more demanding. Designs are becoming more complex. The shortage of skilled labor continues to grow. And, meanwhile, construction's poor productivity rates fail to improve. How do we respond to this challenging industry landscape? So much of the conversation has revolved around BIM (Building Information Modeling); however, BIM is not the answer. It is, however, the beginning of the answer. In this session, we will explore how BIM, if properly implemented, can become a powerful enabler of efficiently and elegantly executed projects. We will dive into scan-to-BIM workflows, automated field construction, prefabrication, and industrialized construction. By drawing on experience implementing BIM on more than 500-plus projects, we’ll reveal trends and highlight successes and failures, so attendees will leave with a greater understanding of how to make the most of their intelligent models. Get a glimpse into life after BIM.

The handover of a 3D model is an old standard practice in the industrial plant market-one that nowadays has to be integrated with the Building Information Modeling (BIM) approach. This presentation will walk you through the journey that an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor took by implementing BIM inside its typical design workflow for an $800 million petrochemical plant in the Middle East. We will demonstrate how to perform civil and structural design using Revit software from conceptual up to construction documentation delivery, and how to take full advantage of 3D modeling for plant project coordination and information management. Thanks to this method of collecting and delivering model data in an efficient manner, it's possible to recognize potential risks, impacts, and conflicts-and to take action in order to bring the project to success. Finally, the class will briefly discuss the project and process BIM implementation benefits, together with the related risks for a general contractor.

The scan-to-BIM (Building Information Modeling) workflow has enabled architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals to efficiently capture, design, and model the as-built environment. But what if we could modify and further automate this process to boost efficiency and insight? This session will be looking at a more refined and automated application of the scan-to-BIM workflow by incorporating laser scanning and point-cloud extraction technologies, as well as creating photorealistic visualizations using scanned data and the design model for more-informed, insightful decision making by conveying highly accurate and realistic design intent.

In the first part of this session, we will create an associative parametric model to introduce fundamental concepts that underpin computational design while exploring visual programming in Dynamo software. The model will be enhanced by parameters retrieved from AutoCAD software and Civil 3D objects. We will show how to organize and export a point cloud representing the landform and link into Civil 3D. There we will integrate this landform as a triangulated irregular network (TIN) model into the model of the existing environment and perform several analyses, including grading, stormwater, and cut/fill balance. Based on this analysis, we will optimize the parametric model. As the model is dynamically linked, we can check the improvement immediately in Civil 3D and iterate the process easily. We will also show how to use Dynamo to link landforms created by designers as NURBS with TIN surfaces that engineers can use.

In this session, we'll showcase the workflows we use with the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform on large health projects, including a full end-to-end example of how data is used from Model Checker for Revit, Navisworks 2024 with no file management clash runs, and Autodesk Construction Cloud issue creation, as well as tracking scope changes in models using Autodesk Takeoff. As teams work in Revit, data updates are automatically passed to a central database, combined with Autodesk Construction Cloud data, and then sent back to Autodesk Construction Cloud as additional Insight Dashboards integrated with existing data to simplify and highlight trends in clashes, and scope changes during the tendering and construction phase. We will also present some additional tools we've been using to close resolved clash issues automatically. And we'll show our additional Revit building information modeling (BIM) file which contains zones, levels, and rooms to support tracked changes to scope in takeoff with data trending. Finally, we will present a simple way to extract all parameters using Autodesk Construction Cloud asset model extraction for handover.

During this class, projects members of the TELT Infrastructure megaproject will explain how to improve operational efficiency with the support of the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform and different desktop software systems. Digital project delivery helps solve one of the main challenges of the construction project: collaboration. It does this by providing up-to-date information, documents, and models, and initiating the revision workflow and the process of the design problems on the platform. From reality capture to existing-condition modeling, from design authoring to design review, the JV has been able to embrace the benefit of constructing digitally before constructing in reality, thanks to the cloud collaboration.
