Coordination and collaboration for civil engineers
When architects, structural engineers, MEP engineers, and civil engineers all collaborate on a project, they must share information about the design, so that all teams are working with the same assumptions. In this module, you learn better ways to collaborate to be more efficient with BIM.

Course outline
Share Civil 3D surfaces with Revit using BIM 360
Sharing design models between the architect and civil engineer helps reduce rework and improves collaboration. Use BIM 360 to share surface data after setting the geospacial coordinates for the project.
Module outline
Sharing design models between the architect and civil engineer helps reduce rework and improves collaboration. Use BIM 360 to share surface data after setting the geospacial coordinates for the project.
This module takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. By the end of the module, you should be able to:
- Set the geospacial coordinates in both Civil 3D and Revit to ensure the models line up
- Share the Civil 3D surface with Revit through the cloud using BIM 360
Reduce rework by importing the building from the architect into Civil 3D
Importing the Revit Building into Civil 3D helps you ensure everything fits together on the site. In this module, you learn how to take advantage of work already done by the architect, saving you time in recreating their work.

This module takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. By the end of the module, you should be able to:
- Select the appropriate method for bringing an architectural model into Civil 3D.
Mark up a road project in BIM 360
Coordinating infrastructure projects in the cloud helps reduce error and rework. In this module, learn how to upload your design into the Document Management module of BIM 360. Then, use markup tools to communicate required design changes.

- Upload files to BIM 360
- Review and markup files in BIM 360
Gravity pipe network interference check
After designing your drainage models, it is important to check for clashes between all known utility models. Catching and addressing clashes at the user level avoids the clashes at higher levels (discipline and company collaboration, for instance) reducing rework and meeting time. In this module, you will identify how to select the networks for interference checking. Next, you will define the criteria in which an interference happens. Lastly, you navigate to each interference.

- Select the pipe networks
- Set the interference reporting criteria
- Navigate and correct the interferences

Migrating Civil 3D drawings and data shortcuts to BIM 360
Migrating Civil 3D files into BIM 360 makes external references and data references available for everyone to use in the cloud. Learn how to upload Civil 3D drawing files and sheet set files for better collaboration across the team.
