Premium Introduction to the Workflow

00:08

Welcome to the FeatureCAM Premium milling class.

00:12

If you're starting this FeatureCAM Premium milling class, you should have already worked through the FeatureCAM Standard class.

00:20

If you have not done so already, I strongly recommend that you stop what you're doing, do not continue in this class, and go back and work through the FeatureCAM Standard class.

00:31

While this class focuses on the information that's just unique to FeatureCAM Premium, it definitely builds off of the material covered in the FeatureCAM Standard class.

00:42

Before we jump into programming our first part, I'm just going to give you a quick reintroduction to the workflow in FeatureCAM.

00:51

As you'll recall, the first step in our workflow is to either open a new FeatureCAM file or import a solid model.

00:59

Once we've started our new document, we can then move on to setting up our stock.

01:03

Here, we’ll be describing the physical piece of material that we’ll be machining our part from.

01:09

With our stock setup, we can take into consideration any machining preparation details, such as the tools we’ll use, post processor, and our touch off point before moving on to creating features.

01:22

Once we've created our features, we can finally simulate those features and make any necessary revisions.

01:29

Now, as you'll recall from the standard class, our simulate-revise section is a bit of a feedback loop.

01:35

After making any revisions to a document, it's always a good idea to go back, simulate those revisions, and revise again if needed.

01:43

Once you're happy with your part, we can then finally move on to our final stage, NC Code.

01:50

At this point, we generated our NC Code during simulation, we can review the NC Code and save it to the directory of our choosing to be sent to the machine.

02:01

Following the same workflow every time we program a part in FeatureCAM, will help ensure that we are programming the part as efficiently as possible.

02:10

Now that we've had a chance to review our workflow, let's move on and program our first part in this FeatureCAM Premium milling class.
