So if you're upgrading to a single site environment, this means that you're doing an in-place upgrade.
00:10
When you're doing an in-place upgrade, as we mentioned earlier, you want to test the upgrade prior to going live.
00:15
If you want to create a test server in this situation, and you don't have one,
00:20
you would build a server as close to the same as your production server with the same version and patch level as your existing Vault server.
00:28
Then you would perform a backup from your production server and restore that to the test server.
00:33
At that point, you're ready to perform and document the steps, and you will be ready to go.
00:39
Additionally, if you already have a test server,
00:42
it is recommended that you do a backup from production and refresh the data, so that you're testing with current data.
00:47
When you are ready to go live,
00:49
the preparation -- you want to make sure that you document the current version in case you do have to roll back.
00:55
If you have to roll back, your Vault backup that you took in the beginning will only restore to the current, the same, or a future version.
01:03
So you want to make sure that you document the version and patch level of Vault.
01:09
And then the next thing you want to do is,
01:11
you want to make sure that your current server meets the minimum hardware or software requirements.
01:15
So, again, there's a link to that in the Resources PDF.
01:19
But you want to make sure that if you need to upgrade your Windows operating system and/or your SQL server on your existing server,
01:28
or if the current version will work.
01:30
You'll need to know the impersonation account, the SA account for your organization.
01:35
And if your organization doesn't allow you access to an SA account,
01:38
what you will need is a SQL server account that has been set up as sysadmin,
01:43
and then you'll need to the password for that.
01:45
Make sure you've downloaded all the software, and then that you know the serial number, the product key,
01:51
what kind of license you're using, and what license server model -- single, redundant, distributed.
01:58
And then lastly, if a rollback is required, you've got your documented version.
02:03
You're going to need to reinstall that version and that patch level.
02:07
Restore the backup that you took in the beginning,
02:10
and you will be able to continue using your existing server until you can go forward and try the upgrade again.
02:16
You want to make sure that you do take the backup once users are logged off at the very beginning of the upgrade,
02:22
and that they are not doing any work until then.
02:24
Something else to consider is what kind of backup are you going to use.
02:27
Are you going to use a Vault backup?
02:29
There is additional information out there that you can look up for using a SQL server backup,
02:34
a third party backup, or a snapshot.
02:38
So when you're ready to do an in-place upgrade, you're going to choose your upgrade window.
02:43
And if working with an Autodesk representative or value-added reseller or whomever,
02:49
you might want to let them know when it's planned in case there are any issues that come up.
02:53
When you're ready to go, you're going to have all your users log out of the system.
02:57
And then I would suggest doing an IIS reset on the ADMS console to make sure that everybody is fully out.
03:03
Then backup your current Vault as I mentioned before in case you need it for roll back.
03:08
Then you're going to run the installation as described in the steps earlier.
03:13
You're going to apply any Hotfixes or patches for that version.
03:17
And then you're going to do a start on your ADMS console.
03:20
Once you start your ADMS console, it should ask you if you want to migrate your databases.
03:25
And you will say "Yes."
03:26
If it doesn't ask you, you may have to do a manual B2B migration.
03:32
And there is more information on that in the PDF.
03:36
Once you know everything's working and done, you want to backup your working state and you're ready to install your clients.
03:42
And again, you can install your clients at whatever pace you need if you're within the two versions.
03:47
Just a couple of things to make sure that you pay attention to when you're doing an in-place upgrade.
03:52
It gives you the options to run the pre-checks individually.
03:55
However, if you do, you will almost always get an error if you do it separately from the upgrade,
03:60
because part of the upgrade process doesn't uninstall and reinstall.
04:03
And part of that uninstall removes the web features.
04:07
And the error that comes up tells you that it already exists.
04:11
If you want to run a check and just see if there's anything else you can.
04:14
But you can expect, and it shows in the screenshot, you can expect an error on your Autodesk DM.
04:20
And then the impersonation account that you enter when you're setting up the install, it may revert back to the Autodesk Vault account.
04:27
That is because it creates a admin account.
04:30
It can't create one on your domain server unless itself is the domain server,
04:34
so it will create it on the local server.
04:36
And for that, once you're done and the upgrade is completed,
04:40
you would just go into your ADMS console and change the impersonation account to what it was or what you would like it to be.
