Using subcases to compare analyses

Any referenced datasets can be downloaded from "Module downloads" in the module overview.

Using subcases - Exercise

  1. Open the Hitch_Subcase.ipt part file from your working folder. 
  2. In the Environments tab>Begin panel, click Autodesk Inventor Nastran. 
  3. In the Autodesk Inventor Nastran tab>Setup panel, click Loads. 
  4. In the Analysis Tree, right click on Subcases and select New.



  5. In the Subcase dialog box, select Gravity in the Loads box. 
  6. Select Pin Constraint and Receiver Constraint from the Constraints box.



  7. Select OK to confirm the new subcase. 
  8. In the Analysis Tree, right click on Subcase 1 and select Activate. 
  9. Subcase 1 should now be greyed out.



  10. In the Setup panel, click Loads. 
  11. In the Load dialog box, do the following: 
    • Set the Type to Bearing Load. 
    • Click in the Selected Entities box and select the surface shown below.



    • For the Magnitude (lbf), set Fz to -1000. 
    • Set the Name to 1000lbf Bearing Z-. 
    • Under Subcases, select Subcase 2 and make sure Subcase 1 is not selected. 
    • Click OK.



  12. Review Subcase 2 in the Analysis tree and make sure it's correct.



  13. Save and Close the model.
