AutoCAD Raster Design offers two valuable tools for merging objects: Merge Images and Merge Vector.
00:11
The Merge Images command merges multiple source images, combining them into a single destination image.
00:17
The Merge Vector command creates a raster equivalent of a vector entity,
00:22
which allows you to combine new AutoCAD vector objects with existing raster images.
00:28
The first example uses the Merge Images command.
00:32
Here, a drawing has two images that have been inserted and correlated.
00:37
To reduce the overhead in the drawing, you want to merge the images.
00:41
From the ribbon, Raster Tools tab, Edit panel, expand the Edit drop-down and click Merge Images.
00:49
First, you are prompted to select the source images, meaning the images you want to merge.
00:55
In the view port, click the border of each of the two images and then, on your keyboard, press ENTER.
01:01
Next, you are prompted to select the destination image.
01:05
In this case, select the larger of the two images.
01:09
When asked whether you want to erase the source images after the merge, click Yes, and then Yes again in the notification dialog.
01:17
This keeps the file size down and maintains just one image in the drawing.
01:22
Click Save As to save the merged image as a separate file.
01:27
The second example uses the Merge Vector command to merge new vector data with existing raster data.
01:34
First, you need to adjust the color and width of the vector lines.
01:38
On the Raster Tools tab, Edit panel, expand the Edit drop-down and select Raster Pen (RPENS).
01:45
This tool controls the thickness of the merged vector lines.
01:49
In the Color Index, select Magenta.
01:53
Assign a Pen Width of 2 pixels to that entity color, and then click OK.
01:59
Now perform the merge. On the Edit panel, expand the Edit drop-down and select Merge Vector.
02:05
You are prompted to select objects, or the linework, you want to merge.
02:10
For this example, select the two building outlines, and then press ENTER.
02:15
Again, click Yes to delete the vectors from the drawing.
02:19
This erases the original vector objects and merges them into the raster image.
02:24
When you zoom in, you can see that the lines are now 2 pixels wide.
