About workspaces in Civil 3D

Describe the different workspaces and how they help you to work in a task-oriented drawing environment.

00:03

In Autodesk Civil 3D, workspaces are sets of user interface components

00:10

—such as ribbon tabs and panels, toolbars, palettes, and menu bars—

00:16

that are grouped and organized so that you can work in a task-oriented drawing environment.

00:22

When you select a workspace, only the user interface components specified in that workspace are displayed.

00:30

You can still access other commands by entering their command names on the command line.

00:36

Civil 3D comes with four workspaces, including the default Civil 3D workspace.

00:44

Use this workspace as-is, or modify it according to your requirements.

00:50

You can switch to another workspace from the Quick Access Toolbar, using the Workspace drop-down.

00:57

Each workspace available in Autodesk Civil 3D

01:02

includes a specific ribbon of tools and displays user interface components related to the following features:

01:10

Civil 3D: civil engineering design and survey

01:15

Drafting & Annotation: AutoCAD drafting and annotation

01:26

Planning and Analysis: AutoCAD Map 3D

01:31

As a reminder, Autodesk Civil 3D is built on top of AutoCAD.

01:37

Therefore, all functions, commands, and keyboard shortcuts used in AutoCAD can also be used in Civil 3D.
