Create a wall reveal

Use a profile family in a wall.

00:03

On the home screen, let's create a new project.

00:06

So we'll go ahead and select new project.

00:09

And in the new project dialog box,

00:11

we'll just ensure that we're using our structural analysis, default template file

00:15

and then we'll go ahead and select. OK.

00:20

So the new project has now been created and of course,

00:23

this will default to the level two plan.

00:25

So when we modern our walls, we'll model them from level two down to level one

00:31

to model the wall. Let's go ahead and select the structure ribbon

00:34

and on the structure ribbon, we'll select wall

00:39

in the properties pallet in the type selector.

00:42

We're going to ensure that we're using generic 12 inch.

00:46

We will rename this style a bit later on

00:49

on the context driven. I'd like to use rectangle to construct my walls.

00:54

And I just want to make sure that the walls are

00:56

going to be modeled down to a depth of level one.

00:59

And I'm currently using the wall centerline.

01:03

So I'm just going to draw a rectangle at an

01:05

arbitrary size and this will obviously construct my walls like so

01:10

now that we've got those walls modeled, we can go up and select,

01:12

modify to release the wall command.

01:16

We're now gonna view these walls in 3D.

01:19

We'll first have to generate a new 3D view

01:21

to do this. Let's go up to the quick access toolbar and select default 3D view

01:28

by default.

01:29

You'll notice here that the analytical model is also displayed just for clarity.

01:33

We're gonna come down to the view control toolbar

01:36

and we'll hide the analytical model

01:38

and also on the view control toolbar, we'll use realistic to shade our walls.

01:44

So let's now edit this wall type and then we'll incorporate our Sham

01:47

for profile that we created in part one of this video.

01:51

So we'll go ahead and select one of the walls. It doesn't matter which one we select

01:56

in the properties, pad it in the type selector. We'll go ahead and select edit type.

02:02

The first thing I'd like to do here is amend the generic name.

02:06

So I'm going to select the rename option here

02:10

and here we'll type in RC wall

02:14

with Sham

02:18

and we'll go ahead and select OK,

02:21

to physically edit the structure of the wall, we'll select this edit button here.

02:26

Now, by default, you'll see the edit assembly dialog box open

02:30

and here, of course, you can see that we have a wall that's 12 inches thick.

02:33

What I want to do is use a reveal tool to cut

02:37

a champ for profile on the outside and inside face of the wall.

02:42

If we take a look at these six buttons down the bottom here.

02:45

You'll notice that we can't modify the vertical structure.

02:49

The reason why these are grayed out is we need to

02:51

change our preview from a plan view to a vertical preview

02:56

to do this. We'll of course, need to enable the preview.

02:59

So we'll select this preview button here.

03:02

And of course, at the minute, we're looking at a preview in a plain view,

03:06

But here we can switch this from floor plan to section.

03:11

And now that the section view is active,

03:13

you'll now notice that these six buttons are available down the bottom.

03:17

We're going to zoom in to the top of the

03:19

wall because this is where we'll be adding our champ.

03:22

And of course, here we have sweeps and reveals,

03:26

sweeps will add material to our wall and a reveal will cut material away.

03:31

So of course, here with our champ, we want to cut material.

03:35

So let's go ahead and select reveals.

03:38

The first thing we'll do in our reveals dialog box is load our sham for profile.

03:42

So we'll select load profile.

03:45

And in the low family dialog box, locate your sham

03:48

for underscore profile R fa

03:50

and select open.

03:53

We now need to add this into the reveals dialogue, so we can select to add

03:58

and you'll now notice that we have a row that's been created.

04:02

So the first thing we can do here is set our profile.

04:05

Now you may remember in part one of the video,

04:07

we created three different family types for our sham.

04:11

In this example, here, we're going to use the two inch Shan.

04:16

You'll notice at the minute that the shampoo is connected to the base of the wall.

04:19

So I'm gonna change this to top

04:22

to actually get a preview.

04:24

If we select the apply button here, you can then see that that's applied in

04:28

and we can now clearly see our sham

04:30

for profile.

04:31

Of course,

04:32

we need to have another row added in to create a shamp

04:35

for profile on the right hand side of the wall as well.

04:38

So we can repeat this by selecting

04:40

a

04:41

once again, we'll select our two inch champ for profile

04:46

in the front column. We'll change this from base to top

04:50

and of course, the side now is going to be interior,

04:54

we can then click apply

04:56

and we can now clearly see those two profiles being displayed

05:01

as we select each row.

05:03

You'll notice that rev it then highlights

05:04

that particular profile in the preview window.

05:09

So that's looking good. We'll select OK to the reveals dialog box

05:13

and OK. Again to the edit assembly dialogue,

05:17

we can also click OK to the type properties dialog box.

05:21

And now if we zoom in, we can now see that our champs

05:24

have been added to this war type

00:25

00:31

to model the wall. Let's go ahead and select the structure ribbon

00:34
