Creating ceilings

Create a ceiling using the automatic and sketch options.

00:04

And we're looking at the floor for plan view

00:07

and we'll create the ceilings at this end of the building

00:09

around the conference room lounge, offices and reception space.

00:14

We're currently looking at a floor plan view

00:17

and from the properties palette in the extents panel here,

00:20

I'll click on the edit button next to view range

00:23

and we can see that we have a 4 ft cut plan,

00:26

which means that this view is created 4 ft above the level

00:30

and is looking downwards.

00:32

And therefore, if we create a ceiling in this floor plan view,

00:36

it's unlikely that we'll be able to see those ceilings

00:39

as they will be above the 4 ft cup length for this view.

00:42

So I'll click cancel to close the view range.

00:46

So when creating ceilings, it's best to be working in a ceiling plan view.

00:50

So from the project browser,

00:53

we'll open up the floor for ceiling plan view

00:59

and now we'll look at the view range settings of this view

01:03

and we can see that we have a 7 ft six cup play

01:06

and as it's a reflected view,

01:08

we'll be looking up from this height and therefore

01:11

the ceilings will be visible within these views.

01:14

So I'll click cancel to close this.

01:17

And now to create the ceiling,

01:18

we'll go to the architecture ribbon tab and from the build panel,

01:22

we'll choose the ceiling tool.

01:24

Looking at the type selector,

01:25

we can see we have the two by two acoustic ceiling tile system set

01:31

and look at the modified place ceiling ribbon.

01:33

You can see we have an option for automatic or sketch ceiling.

01:37

It's currently set to automatic.

01:39

So as I move my cursor over the rooms,

01:42

we can see it detecting the enclosed spaces and outlining those with a red boundary.

01:46

So

01:47

in the lounge area here, if I just click, it will place the ceiling in that area

01:51

and we can continue to click in the conference

01:53

room in the office to place the ceilings there

01:57

for the store room.

01:58

We'll first change the ceiling type to be the ship rock wall board on metal stud.

02:03

And then when we click in this room,

02:05

it actually places the ceiling,

02:07

but we can't easily see it as the boundary lines are coincident

02:11

with the walls and it doesn't have a surface hatch pattern.

02:15

So although it looks like it may not be placed, if we click to place it again,

02:19

we can see we get a warning telling us

02:21

that there are identical ceilings in the same place.

02:23

So

02:24

I'll close this warning and then from the quick access bar,

02:27

we'll choose undo to clear that last ceiling out.

02:31

Now for the reception area as there isn't a physical boundary to enclose it.

02:35

The area that it finds covers the corridor on a lot more besides.

02:38

So, in this instance,

02:40

we'll use the sketch ceiling option from the modify played ceiling ribbon here.

02:45

And now we can see that we're in the create ceiling boundary tools

02:49

and we have our sketching tools here. So

02:51

I'll change this to be the pick walls tool.

02:54

And now this will allow me to go around and click on the walls

02:57

and it will then trace the boundary line along the edges of those walls.

03:03

So once you've got all of those picked,

03:05

we will need to tie them up a little bit to create an enclosed boundary themselves.

03:10

So when we pick on the wall, it just traces the entire length of the wall here.

03:15

So I'll click modify first.

03:17

Now, looking at the vertical line on the left here,

03:20

we can see it's on the wrong side of the wall

03:22

so we can use the controls here to flip it to the other side of the wall.

03:27

Now, from the modified ribbon, I'll choose the trim extend to corner to

03:31

and we can start to click on these lines here to create corners

03:35

to create the enclosed space that we need.

03:38

Now for a line around the back of the store, we need to trim this out.

03:42

And as it's one long line, first, I'll go to the split element tool

03:46

and split this into two separate lines.

03:49

And now we can go back to the trim, extend to corner tool

03:52

and then create this boundary so that it goes around the store room.

03:58

So I haven't got that enclosed boundary. If we click, finish edit mode,

04:02

we should get that ceiling created

04:05

and we can see it there created.

04:07

Looking at the type selector, we can see it's the GWB on metal.

04:11

So we'll change this for the two by four acoustic tile system.

04:15

And then we can see that created in the reception area.
