Understand how to create a basic building.
Transcript
00:04
In Forma, the Design toolbar offers tools to create elements in the canvas, such as basic buildings.
00:11
Basic buildings let you quickly run volumetric studies and access important metrics.
00:17
With a project already open and site limits applied, from the Design toolbar, select Buildings > Basic building.
00:26
The toolbar updates.
00:29
In the canvas, zoom and pan to where you wish to place a building.
00:34
Back in the Design toolbar, select Cube.
00:38
In the canvas, pick the perimeter of the building you wish to design.
00:42
Once the perimeter is selected, a dimension field tooltip displays at the cursor.
00:48
Enter a height value for the building, and then click to place it.
00:52
A basic building displays, complete with floors.
00:56
Create another basic building.
00:60
This time, if you have the Constraints visibility toggled ON, from the left panel, Navigator tab, under Layers, select Hide Constraints.
01:12
For each floor, you can change its height, assign Functions, and change the footprint.
01:18
You can also add internal content to each floor, for example, a parking layout or interior floor plans.
01:25
To review the height of a floor in one of the buildings, select a building.
01:30
From the right panel, under Building, you can now adjust the floors,
01:35
including how many floors are in the building and the height of the floors.
01:40
In the Height field, change the value of the floor height.
01:44
Next, change the function assignment of the building.
01:48
Select the currently assigned function and, from the Swap Function flyout,
01:53
select from one of the available, pre-made functions.
01:57
Select another building and change that function assignment as well.
02:01
Then, select Area metrics.
02:05
Each floor will have its gross area calculated in Area metrics, giving you live feedback on the area stats of your project.
02:13
To review the metrics, expand the area options in the Area metrics tree.
