Create a new cloud project, upload, and save a 3D model

Create new projects, open models, and save them in Fusion.

When starting to learn 3D modeling in Fusion,

it can be helpful to build a foundation by performing some basic project creation and saving operations.

With Fusion open and running, you are ready to create a new project to store your design data.

First, open the Data Panel, which enables you to view, access, organize, and share your Fusion projects and designs.

In the Application bar, click Show Data Panel to open it.

Click New Project, and then enter a name for your project, such as “3D Modeling”.

Under All Projects, double-click the new project to open it.

As you can see, the project is currently empty.

To upload design data, click Upload, and in the Upload dialog, click Select Files.

Navigate to, and select the design data to upload.

In this example, Reciprocating_Saw.f3d is selected.

Click Open and then Upload to complete the upload process.

Fusion uploads the design to the project, which is stored on the Fusion cloud.

In the Data Panel, you can see the design saved to the project.

Double-click it to open the design in Fusion.

Once the 3D model is open on the canvas, you can click Hide Data Panel to give yourself extra space.

Based on file management standards, it can be helpful to save a copy of the design, in case you need to revert to the original model at any point.

To save the design, from the Application bar, click File > Save As.

You can save the design into the same project as a production version.

Append “Rev01” to the existing name, and then click Save.

Open the Data Panel again to see the new production design along with the original uploaded design in the project folder.

The Rev01 version is open and ready for you to work on.
