00:04

We can see that we have some recessed shelves at the back of this office area

00:08

and we need to create some new materials to apply to these shelves

00:12

to access the material browser.

00:14

We'll go to the manage ribbon tab

00:17

and from the settings panel,

00:19

we'll click the materials button

00:21

to open the material browser.

00:23

Now we can see the material browser has three panels.

00:27

So at the top left here,

00:28

this panel shows us the materials that are available to us in the actual project.

00:34

And on the right here, we have the material editor

00:36

which allows us to edit those materials.

00:39

And we can see that we have some different

00:40

tabs to edit different parts of the material with

00:43

a graphics tab allowing us to change the shading

00:45

colors and apply surface patterns and cut patterns.

00:50

The appearance tab shows us the render asset.

00:52

And this is used when we enable the realistic shading mode or we render the model.

00:58

We also have the option for physical and thermal assets here

01:02

which can be used for when analyzing the model.

01:06

The panel at the bottom left here is the material library panel.

01:09

And if I expand out the home group. Just here,

01:13

we can see we have the auto

01:14

desk, a EC materials library

01:18

and actually there's a little lock next to this

01:20

which indicates that we can't actually edit this library

01:23

with it.

01:23

Selected, we can see all of the materials that are available to us from that library.

01:28

If I expand out the A EC materials group here, we can see the different categories

01:33

and I'll scroll down slightly and click on the glass category here.

01:37

And then we can see that that list of materials is filtered to

01:39

show us the different types of glass available in the A EC materials.

01:44

We can also open other material libraries that have been shared with us

01:49

and to do this, we'll click on the library menu at the bottom left here

01:53

and we'll choose open existing library.

01:57

You'll need to browse to where you have the exercise files saved

02:01

and then we can click on the paint colors or

02:03

test library file

02:05

and then click open

02:06

to add this into our material browser.

02:09

And now we can see at the bottom of the library panel here,

02:12

we have the paint colors library.

02:14

And as it's selected,

02:15

we can see all of the materials available in that library.

02:19

And if we expand out the paint colors group here,

02:21

we can see we've got category for blues, greens and reds.

02:24

And as we click on each one, we can see the different materials in each category,

02:30

we can also create a new library.

02:33

So from the material library button in the bottom left corner here,

02:36

we'll click on this and then select create new library.

02:41

Now, I'll save this one in the same folder as where the exercise files are.

02:45

And I'll name this one studio materials

02:50

and I'll click save

02:51

and we can see we have that new material library added into our material browser.

02:55

Now,

02:57

in order to use a material from the library,

02:60

we must first add it to the project materials.

03:03

So I choose the blues category from the paint colors library here

03:07

and then I'll select the paint as a blue

03:10

and now we need to add it to the project material. So

03:14

I'll click on the

03:15

add material to document button here

03:19

and we can see that that's now copied up into the project materials

03:22

and its properties are here in the material editor for us to make changes to.

03:28

So looking at the graphics tab here, we can see on the shading panel, the blue color,

03:32

although it's not currently editable.

03:34

So I swapped to the appearance tab

03:36

and we can see we have the appearance asset and it's called a zero blue

03:41

looking just to the left of the name,

03:43

we can see the zero here that indicates that this

03:45

appearance asset isn't being shared by any other material.

03:49

So we can edit this one without fear of changing other materials within the project.

03:54

So to change the actual color of it. We'll come down to the wall paint panel here

03:58

and next to the color parameter, we can see this color swatch. We'll click onto that

04:03

and that will open up the color palette here

04:05

and we'll just drag the luminant slider at

04:08

the side here down to create a stronger blue

04:11

and then we'll click OK

04:13

to apply that color onto our material.

04:17

Now, we'll change the name of this asset

04:19

to match the new color.

04:21

So on the information panel here, we'll click in the name parameter

04:24

and we'll change this from a Zer blue

04:26

to bright blue.

04:29

And now I'll swap back to the graphics tab

04:32

and we can see on the shading panel here that

04:34

the new shade of blue has been brought through.

04:37

And that's because we have the use render appearance option checked.

04:42

So I'll go over to the list of project materials and we'll rename this material.

04:46

So with it highlighted, we'll right click

04:49

and from the menu here, we'll choose rename

04:52

and we'll change this name to be paint hyphen bright blue.

04:60

So now we've got that new material in the project and we've made some changes to it.

05:04

We can actually add it back into the library.

05:07

So I'll right click over it

05:10

from the menu here. I'll choose add two

05:12

and then from the sub menu,

05:14

I'll choose the paint colors

05:16

and blues from the list of categories beneath this.

05:19

And we can see that added to the paint colors library.

05:23

We can also add it into our new studio materials library as well.

05:27

So I'll right click over it once again and

05:29

from the add to sub menu here, I'll choose studio materials

05:34

and we can see straight away that that's now in the studio materials library.

01:28

01:33

and I'll scroll down slightly and click on the glass category here.

01:37

And then we can see that that list of materials is filtered to

01:39

02:21

we can see we've got category for blues, greens and reds.

03:15

03:19

and we can see that that's now copied up into the project materials

03:22

and its properties are here in the material editor for us to make changes to.

03:28

03:49

So we can edit this one without fear of changing other materials within the project.

03:54

So to change the actual color of it. We'll come down to the wall paint panel here

04:13

to apply that color onto our material.

05:12

and then from the sub menu,
