Following a review of the mechanical settings in a project or project template. A
00:08
review of the available duct and pipe types will establish if additional types
00:13
are required to meet your mechanical modeling
00:15
standards for current and future projects.
00:19
In this example, we will look at the steps for creating new duct and pipe types.
00:24
We will review and set the relevant type properties and
00:27
then establish the fittings to be used for each type.
00:30
Introducing new fittings to the project where necessary.
00:35
Let's start by looking at the duck types within a project.
00:40
Begin a new project using the mechanical default template.
00:47
The available duct types can be established by either
00:50
selecting the duct command and reviewing the type selector
00:58
or by expanding the family's branch of the project browser and expanding ducts.
01:04
And the options found beneath
01:08
from beneath the rectangular duct select radius, elbows and taps
01:16
right mouse select then choose type properties.
01:20
This option is exactly the same as accessing
01:23
the duct type properties from the property's window.
01:28
The duct type properties determine not only whether rectangular oval
01:33
or round duct is used but also the fittings.
01:38
The fittings used for this duck type
01:40
are managed through the routing preferences and
01:43
selecting the edit button will allow for
01:45
review and editing of those routing preferences.
01:50
Here we see the choices made for all of the fittings associated with this duck type
01:56
select, ok. To close all dialog boxes.
01:59
Then from the project browser, locate pipes and pipe types,
02:07
select the standard type.
02:09
Then from the right mouse button menu select type properties.
02:14
Again,
02:15
this is exactly the same as choosing the standard pipe type
02:18
from the properties and selecting edit type from the property's window,
02:24
select edit against routing preferences and note the choice of pipe segment
02:31
and of the fittings for this pipe type.
02:35
Once the available duct and pipe types have been established within the project.
02:40
New types based on template or project requirements can be created.
02:46
Let's start with creating a new duck type.
02:51
New duck types are created by duplicating an existing one.
02:55
Choose a duck type that is close to the
02:57
specifications of the new one you want to create as
03:00
it will inherit the properties of the original and
03:03
may reduce the amount of editing that is required.
03:06
Right mouse, select rectangular, duct, radius, elbows and taps
03:11
and choose duplicate.
03:15
Right mouse, select the new type and rename to radius elbows
03:20
two W stroke taps
03:25
right mouse, select the new duck type and this time select type properties,
03:33
edit the routing preferences and from the drop down menu beneath elbow,
03:37
select the radius elbow, radius two W
03:44
similar changes can be made to other fitting options.
03:47
So change the transition from 45 degrees to 15 degrees.
03:54
Select, ok. To close all dialog boxes.
03:60
Let's go ahead and try the new duck type and compare it against the original type.
04:05
Select the duct command from the systems tab of the ribbon
04:09
and from the type, select to choose rectangular duct radius, elbows and taps,
04:15
then create a run of duct that changes size and direction.
04:20
Start with a width of 24 inches and a height of 12 inches.
04:24
And an elevation of 9 ft
04:28
then reduced to a width of 18 inches and draw
04:32
another short section followed by a 90 degree change in direction
04:37
and then finish the run
04:40
from the type selector,
04:42
change the duck type to the new type just created and create a similar run.
04:53
The difference can be seen in the new duct type.
04:55
The elbow has a larger radius in the original and the
04:58
angle of the transition is 15 degrees instead of 45.
