Outputs and Model States

As the product publisher, you have complete control over which output types are available from your model.

There are several output types available, but only the Revit family type known by the acronym RFA, is required to support access to your product in Revit design workflows.

You can choose to publish one or more model state representations to the Revit family by setting each to be available or unavailable.

Choosing available allows Revit users to choose which LOD representation to use in their designs based on the desired level of development.

Other optional output types include the three d Inventor model, as well as the two d drawing in the native Inventor file format or a PDF.

The bill of materials can also be output with the option to use any or all of the listed model state configurations that are present in the Inventor model.

This will be output as a comma separated values file, known more commonly as a CSV.

You can also opt to output various neutral cad file formats, including sat, step, or a GLB.

Choose any or all of the listed model state configurations that are present in the Inventor model for output of any of these neutral CAD file formats.

When the Inventor model contains more than just the primary model state, It is important to include a line at the top of any I logic input rules to set the member edit scope to be edit all members.

This ensures that when the I logic rules are run-in the construction cloud server, the configuration changes are applied to all model states, and not just the active model state.

When preparing your Inventor model for publishing, the model state edit scope should be set to edit factory scope. Also known as edit all model states.

You should also make sure the primary model state is set as the active model state.

With the primary model state active and the output status configured, you will set the Revit family category choosing the category that is appropriate for your product definition.

Here, we use the generic model category.

Next, enter a name for family.

This is the name the Revit user will see, so we want to ensure this name is clear and meaningful in the context of Revit. And that it is unique to the project location.

Clicking the publish button presents the screen where you will enter the product name, the published location, and the autodesk construction cloud or BIMDox project.

If the product name has changed, you are given the choice to create a new release or a new product.

Publishinglishing a product with the same name as an existing product in a project will result in the creation of a new release of the existing product with an incremented release number. Once the publish is complete, you can click the product definition button to return back to the product definition start screen. To view the published product, you can use the informed design web portal button to open the autodesk informed design page.

In summary, when publishing, it is important that any input I logic rules that will run during the product configuration, are configured to use the all model states edit mode.

Only the Revit family, also known as an RFA file, is required to publish a product definition.

You can use the informed design web portal button found on the product definition start screen to directly open the autodesk informed design page.
