Release Management

How to generate new product model releases from Inventor, how to view and change release status in the Informed Design web app, and the ramifications of changing release status including within Revit.

To generate a new product model release, The product definition must be modified and republished from Inventor.

New releases are required whenever any aspect of a definition is modified.

Model geometry, input rule changes, or in this case adding a new parameter.

The newly created parameter must be adopted and incorporated into the code blocks input rules.

After making the modifications, publish the product definition to generate the new release ensuring that the same product name and project location are used.

After confirming publishing settings, the status of the publish will be reported once publishing is complete.

The Informed Design web app is used to manage releases and their status via the releases tab.

All of the available product models in the currently active ACC or BEMDox project are listed in the browser at the left side of the app.

Utilize the search bar to filter the list and more easily select the product.

The available releases and their status are shown to the right of the browser.

Checking the box next to a release will display the default value set during the publish.

Which can be expanded or hidden from view.

Checking the box also allows the status of the release to be modified.

A release status can be set to default from active or can be obsolete.

Setting a release to be default will set all other releases to active If a release has not been set to obsolete.

If a release is set to obsolete, It is no longer available for placement with Revit.

Users must go back to the Revit model and utilize the Informed Design, replace command, to choose and insert an approved release.

Additionally, any obsolete variance will not generate outputs from the web app.

Within Revit, product variant instances can be updated to a different release using the replace command.

Launch the replace command and select the variant instance to modify.

Choose the change release button and select the required release.

In this example, the list of input parameters changes as a new parameter was adopted and published in this release.

Make any additional changes and apply them to the variant instance.

In summary, new product model releases are published from the product definitions within Inventor, using the same product names and project locations as previous releases, accessing the releases within the Informed Design web app allows release information to be verified and release status to be modified.

Existing variants within a Revit model can be updated to other releases via the Informed Design, replace command.
