The Autodesk Data Connector for Power BI is a custom connector that seamlessly integrates with Microsoft Business Intelligence platform.
00:11
It fetches data from Data Exchanges and feeds them into Microsoft Power BI to construct comprehensive reports and dashboards.
00:19
This connector provides robust data visualization, analysis,
00:24
and connectivity to design data coming from design applications that participate in the Data Exchange ecosystem.
00:30
There are several Power BI Connector prerequisites, all of which you need to work with Power BI and Autodesk Data Exchange.
00:37
Assuming you already have the Power BI desktop application installed,
00:41
first, ensure you have a specific Power BI license to create and share dashboards or visualizations.
00:47
Then, you need to download and install the Power BI Connector, import a viewer visual into Power BI,
00:54
and finally, verify that you can access the ACC Docs project and folder where the Data Exchange is saved.
01:01
You can download the Power BI Connector from the Autodesk App Store, From the Autodesk Connector for Power BI page.
01:08
Before installing the connector, make sure to uninstall any previous versions.
01:13
Then, from your file browser, double-click the downloaded file to start the installation.
01:19
Read and accept the license agreement, then click Next to proceed.
01:24
Review the Installation Prerequisite Check, noting the following:
01:28
If a computer has multiple users, the connector needs to be installed so that each user can use it.
01:33
The installer needs permission to update the Windows Registry.
01:37
This means that if you do not have an Administrator role, you may need to obtain permission.
01:43
Click Next, and then click Install.
01:45
A progress indicator displays.
01:48
When the installation is complete, you see a success message.
01:52
Click Finish.
01:55
To verify the installation, open Power BI, and from the ribbon, Home tab, Data panel, expand the Get data drop-down, and then click More.
02:05
This opens the Get Data dialog.
02:07
In the search field, enter “Autodesk”, and in the search results, you see Autodesk Data Connector for Power BI,
02:15
which means that the installation has completed successfully.
02:19
Click Cancel to close the dialog.
02:21
Now, you need to import the viewer visual.
02:24
This visual will allow you to load a Data Exchange model directly from the viewer file included with your dataset.
02:31
In Power BI, from the Visualizations pane, click the More (…) menu and select Import a visual from a file.
02:39
In the Documents\Power BI Desktop\Custom Visuals folder, select Autodesk Data Connector for Power BI, and then click Open.
02:49
In the success message, click OK.
02:51
The Data Connector visual now appears in the Visualizations pane.
02:56
Finally, you need to verify that you have access to the project where the Data Exchange is saved in the Autodesk Construction Cloud.
03:04
With the project open in ACC Docs—in this case, within Autodesk Build—on the Files page,
03:11
locate the project folder where the Data Exchange is saved.
03:15
Next to that folder, click More and then select Permission Settings.
03:20
From the Permissions panel, ensure that you have at least view and download permissions for that folder.
03:26
With all the prerequisites met, you are now ready to begin using the Autodesk Data Connector for Power BI.
