Publishing dashboards and sharing data from Power BI
00:08
enables you to analyze and visualize data collaboratively,
00:11
both within and outside of your organization.
00:14
While one option is to share a Power BI file with recipients who have access to the data exchange
00:20
and can log in using their own credentials,
00:22
this requires everyone involved to have some knowledge of Power BI Desktop.
00:27
A more convenient alternative is to publish your dashboard to the Power BI service,
00:32
where you can then choose from multiple data-sharing options.
00:36
Begin with your dashboard open in Power BI Desktop.
00:40
To publish this dashboard to the Power BI service, from the ribbon, Home tab, Share panel, click Publish.
00:49
In the notification, click Save to save the file.
00:54
Next, in the Publish to Power BI dialog, choose the appropriate workspace for your dashboard, and then click Select.
01:03
Note that you need to have the appropriate Microsoft license to do this,
01:07
and you must have Premium access to share data externally.
01:11
When the publishing process finishes, click Got it to close the dialog.
01:18
To access the published dashboard, in your browser, open the Power BI service and navigate to your workspace.
01:26
In this example, the workspace has been created using the Premium service.
01:32
Here, you see your dashboard and the schematic model representing your data exchange dataset.
01:38
When you open your dashboard,
01:40
you see that the online version offers nearly the same functionality as the desktop application.
01:46
How you share this data from here will vary, depending on the recipients.
01:51
To share the dashboard with someone in your organization who has access to the Power BI workspace,
01:57
from the ribbon, click Share.
01:60
Then, from the Send Link dialog, select from the people in your organization or enter the email address of the recipient.
02:09
Additionally, you can send the dashboard to Teams or add it to a PowerPoint presentation.
02:15
To publish the dashboard, either within your organization or externally, select File > Embed Report.
02:25
The SharePoint online and Website or portal options are typically used for recipients in your organization,
02:31
as anyone accessing the dashboard will need access to the dataset.
02:35
To publish externally, select Publish to web.
02:39
Choosing Developer Playground allows you to use the API to embed your dashboard in a website or other service.
02:46
For this example, select Publish to web.
02:51
Then, in the Embed in a public website dialog, click Continue to proceed.
02:57
Ensure that the information you publish is either restricted by the access controls of the website or is not confidential,
03:04
and that you have the rights to publish it.
03:07
If these conditions are met, click Publish.
03:11
A success dialog displays with a preview and two options for sharing the dashboard.
03:17
The first is a link that you can Copy and send via email,
03:20
and the second is HTML iFrame that can be pasted into a website to embed the dashboard.
03:27
In this case, Copy the link.
03:30
You will now use this link to publish the dashboard in Insight on the Autodesk Construction Cloud.
03:36
Open ACC, and in the product picker, select Insight.
03:43
To create a new dashboard, click the plus icon next to Dashboards.
03:48
In this case, a dashboard named “Data Exchange” has already been created.
03:54
Next, click Card Library, and in the search field, enter “power bi”.
04:01
Select the POWER BI card, and then click Add Card.
04:05
On the added card, click Configure, and then enter a name, such as “Lighting Fixtures”.
04:13
In the Partner URL field, paste the URL that you copied from the Power BI service.
04:20
Then, click Save.
04:23
Now, the Power BI dashboard is published within Autodesk Construction Cloud under Insight.
04:30
Since this area is restricted to project members, only those with existing access to the data can view the dashboard.
04:37
If needed, you can further restrict access by clicking Edit next to Shared with all project members.
04:45
Then, use the Share Settings dialog to specify which members, roles, or companies have access.
04:53
As previously mentioned, the link obtained from Power BI is public,
04:58
and if access is not restricted, anyone can share it externally.
05:03
Click Save.
05:05
A message indicates that the dashboard is saved and published.
