The keynote is a parameter available on most object types
00:07
and it allows a value to be assigned from an external keynote file.
00:12
The keynote file is a text file that can be modified to suit each project
00:17
and are normally based on standard building codes,
00:20
assigning keynotes and placing keynote tags on
00:22
views allows us to have consistent notes for
00:25
an object throughout the project which can be
00:28
changed or edited globally via the keynote parameter
00:32
or by editing the keynote file directly.
00:35
We're looking at the floor junction detail view
00:38
which is in need of some notes to complete the detail.
00:42
First, we'll take a look at the keynote settings. So from the annotate ribbon tab
00:47
on the tag panel here we'll click on
00:50
the keynote dropdown and then pick keynote settings.
00:55
And here at the top of the keynote settings,
00:57
we can see the keynote file that's associated to this project
01:02
and we could click browse and then browse
01:04
to a different keynote file for this project.
01:07
However, this is a standard file that's supplied with REV
01:11
and we'll stick with it for this project.
01:14
I'll click the view button here
01:16
and we can see the contents of the keynote file.
01:19
And here we can see that it's split into key values and keynote text.
01:26
And if I expand out one of the values here, so
01:29
we'll expand out the division nine finishes
01:32
and then we have sub values in that.
01:34
So I'll expand the plaster and Gypsum board division here.
01:38
And then within this, the Gypsum board,
01:40
and then we can finally see a long list of
01:42
keys for different thicknesses and specification of Gypsum board.
01:46
And these are the keys that we can assign to the objects in our project
01:49
and can be displayed on individual views using the keynote tags.
01:54
I'll click OK to close down the keynote file here
01:57
and then I'll click cancel. So as not to make any changes to the keynote settings.
02:04
Now let's pick on the retaining wall here at the bottom
02:07
and then from the properties palette,
02:09
we'll click edit type to access its type properties
02:14
and looking in the identity panel here,
02:16
we can see the parameter for keynote
02:18
and it currently doesn't have a value assigned.
02:20
So I'll click on the blank value here.
02:23
And now from the button that appears,
02:25
we can click on this to open up the view of the keynote file.
02:29
So now we'll find the key that we want to assign onto this wall.
02:32
So I'll expand out the concrete division here
02:35
and then concrete cast in place
02:37
and then the structural concrete.
02:40
Now as we scroll down the list of keys here
02:43
towards the bottom.
02:47
We can see that we have a key for a 12 inch cast in place concrete wall.
02:52
So I'll select this one
02:53
and then
02:54
we'll click OK, to assign this onto the wall type
02:58
and now we'll click OK, again to close its type properties.
03:02
So now we'll go to the annotate ribbon tab and from the tags panel here,
03:06
we'll click on the keynote dropdown and we'll pick the element keynote tool.
03:11
Looking at the type selector,
03:13
we can see that we have three options for the keynote tag here. So
03:16
one is just the key value, the number only
03:20
and then we have the text only
03:22
and then the one we'll choose here
03:24
is to display both the key and the text.
03:27
Now looking at the options bar, we can see we have the option for free and selected,
03:32
which means we can click on the object and then draw a
03:35
leader line away to locate the keynote tag where we want it.
03:39
So now we'll move our mouse over the concrete wall that we just edited
03:43
and we can see the preview of the keynote
03:46
as we go over this. So
03:47
we'll click to place the leader
03:50
and then we can draw this away
03:52
and then finally place the text in the view
03:55
and we can see that now displaying the number
03:57
and the text of the keynote that we assigned to the wall type.
04:01
So now we'll go back to the type selector
04:03
and we'll select the keynote text type.
04:06
And now we can click on the plywood floor in here
04:10
and then draw the leader line away and place the note down.
04:13
But we can see that that just displays the keynote text and not the number.
04:18
So now we'll go back to the type selector and choose keynote number only.
04:25
And now we'll pick on the timber stud at the bottom of the wall here.
04:28
And now as we draw this away and place it down,
04:31
we can see this is just displaying the key value
04:34
that's assigned to that timber stud.
04:36
So we go back to the type selector and we'll swap
04:38
it back to be the keynote text and number type.
04:42
Now I'll pick on the joist here at the edge of the floor
04:46
and then we'll draw this away to place this keynote down
04:51
and now we'll go over the anchor bolt just here
04:54
and we can see that this has two question marks. So
04:56
we'll pick it
04:57
and draw the leader line away to place the keynote.
05:02
But now as soon as we've placed
05:04
it, it brings up the view of the keynote file.
05:07
And this is for us to choose a keynote to assign onto the anchor bolt.
05:12
So I'll expand out the metals division here
05:16
and then we'll expand the metal fastening subdivision.
05:21
Now, as we scroll down the list of keys here,
05:24
we can see that we have some keys for hooked anchor bolts
05:27
and we'll choose the five eights hooked anchor bolt
05:30
and then we'll click. OK.
05:32
We can see that it's now been filled out on the keynote tag.
05:37
I'll click, modify to finish placing the keynotes.
05:41
Now, if I go and select the anchor bolt
05:44
and from the properties palette, here, we'll click,
05:46
edit type to view its properties.
05:49
And here we can see in the keynote parameter
05:51
that we've got that keynote value assigned into the object itself,
05:55
even though we applied it via the keynote tag.
05:58
So I'll click OK to close down the type properties.
06:02
And now looking at the wall plate that we have placed in the view,
06:05
this is actually using the same component as the timber joist.
06:09
And if I select the tag that's attached to the timber joist
06:13
and then looking at the modify keynote tags, we have a tool to add and remove hosts.
06:19
If I click on this
06:20
first, we can see the joy that's highlighted as the original host.
06:24
But now we can click on the wall plate to add this in as a secondary host.
06:29
And we can see now that that adds a second leader line from the same tag
06:34
looking up at the modify ribbon. Here
06:35
we have an option to merge leaders. So
06:38
I'll click on that
06:39
and we can see that, that tidies up these two leaders.
06:42
And now
06:43
we can just use the drag controls here
06:46
to make these look a little bit Tidier for us.
06:53
So that completes placing all the keynotes in.
06:56
So now we need to place some text in the view that we cannot use with keynotes.
07:01
So to do this, we'll go to the annotate ribbon tab
07:04
and from the text panel, we'll click on the text tool.
07:11
Now, looking at the type selector,
07:12
we can see that we have some different text types here
07:15
and we currently have the 3 30 seconds architectural text type selected
07:20
and looking at the place, text driven.
07:22
We have options here to place with leaders with one segment, two segments or curved.
07:28
We'll click the two segment leader.
07:31
Now we'll click down here at the edge of the topography here
07:34
and then draw the leader line away
07:37
and we'll type the note in site level varies around the building.
07:44
And then when we click to finish that,
07:46
we can see that we've added that note in at the end of that leader line,
07:50
come back to the type selector and we'll change this to be the quarter inch text.
07:55
Now, we don't need a leader line from this.
07:56
So we'll go back to the place text ribbon and choose without leader.
08:01
And now we can click in the bottom right corner here and we'll type in
08:05
the note basement to indicate that this is the basement area of the building.
08:10
And now we'll go back to the type selector and we'll
08:12
change it back to the 3 30 seconds architectural text type
08:17
and then we'll just click to place a note up here
08:20
and this note will read finished floor level.
08:25
However, we do actually want a leader on this.
08:28
So I'll click modify to finish placing the text
08:31
and then we can select it
08:33
and looking at the modified text notes ribbon here we see.
08:36
We have options to add leaders. So
08:38
we'll click to add a left side straight leader.
08:42
And now we can use the drag controls here to drag
08:45
the leader into place and adjust the shoulder of it.
08:49
Now, looking at this leader,
08:51
we can see that it has a different arrowhead to the keynote tags here.
08:54
So whilst it's selected,
08:56
we'll click edit type on the properties pallet
08:59
and now looking in the graphics tab here,
09:01
we've got the leader arrowhead and we can see it's arrowhead one at the moment.
09:05
So let's click on this
09:07
and we'll change this to be the arrow open 90 degree 1/16
09:11
and then we'll click. OK.
09:13
We can see that that's now updated on both of those pieces
09:17
of text and we've got the same arrowhead as the keynotes.
09:19
Now,
09:20
now looking at the plywood sheathing component here,
09:24
we can see this actually has the wrong keynote on it
09:27
as it should say plywood subfloor rather than plywood sheeting.
09:32
So I'll select the Plywood component here.
09:34
Now, from the properties palette,
09:36
we'll click edit type to access its type properties.
09:40
And here we can see the keynote parameter and we need to change this.
09:43
So let's click on and then open up the keynote file with a button that appears.
09:47
And we can see the current keynote as the Plywood G then
09:51
and just beneath this,
09:52
we can see the correct one which gives us the Plywood subfloor.
09:56
So I'll select this and then click OK
09:58
and then click OK once more.
10:00
And we can see now that that's
10:02
updated on the keynote tag here to show us the Plywood subfloor note.
