Use two methods to intelligently decimate key points from a point cloud without degrading the surface.
Type:
Tutorial
Length:
1 min.
Transcript
00:03
In ReCap Pro, you can decimate a point cloud intelligently,
00:08
so that key points can be exported and leveraged more efficiently by downstream applications.
00:15
With a project open in ReCap Pro, from the Home tile menu, Automatic Ground Classification flyout, click Decimate Points.
00:26
In the Decimate Points dialog, select the Source Classification from which the points will be extracted,
00:33
and the Target Classification to receive the extracted points.
00:38
You can now decide how you want the points to be decimated from two options:
00:44
Use the slider to set an approximate percentage of points,
00:49
or Specify an approximate number of points from the total number of visible points in the source classification.
00:57
Click Decimate.
00:59
When the decimated point cloud is then used to generate a surface—in Civil 3D, for example—the amount of points
01:07
used to generate the surface is significantly fewer—without degradation of the surface.
