Controlling the visibility of objects

Control the visiblity of objects.

00:03

We're currently looking at the floor to floor plan view.

00:07

And in this view, all of the model categories are visible.

00:10

So we can see all of the walls, doors,

00:12

furniture and other equipment that have been placed in the model.

00:17

We need to make a view that we can add some dimensions to

00:20

and therefore we need to hide the furniture and equipment in that view.

00:25

So first to create a new view, we'll go to the view, ribbon type

00:29

and from the create panel here, we'll click the duplicate view, drop down

00:34

and then choose duplicate view.

00:36

Now that we have that copied view in the project browser,

00:39

we'll right click over it and choose rename

00:42

and we'll set the name to be floor two dimensions.

00:49

So now zoom in in a little, we can see we have the furniture objects here.

00:53

And if I pick on this table,

00:55

we can go to the properties pallet

00:57

and just beneath the type selector here,

00:58

we can see we have one object selected and

01:01

it's of the category furniture we can see here.

01:04

It's that desk family.

01:06

If I select this object here

01:09

and go back to the same location we can see this belongs to the casework category.

01:15

And if I select the refrigerator next to it,

01:17

we can see this belongs to the speciality equipment category.

01:22

And finally, at the other end of the plan here, at the other end of the building,

01:26

if I select one of the showers,

01:27

we can see that belongs to the plumbing fixtures category.

01:31

So these are the categories that we need to turn off in this view

01:34

to leave us with just the walls and doors that we need for the dimensions.

01:38

So we'll do this via the visibility graphic overrides.

01:42

And we can access this through two methods.

01:45

We can go to the view ribbon tab and from the graphics panel,

01:48

we see we have the button here for visibility, graphic overrides.

01:52

Alternatively,

01:53

we can go to the properties of the view and here

01:55

we can see we have an edit button next to visibility,

01:58

graphic overrides.

01:59

So I'll click this

02:00

to open up the settings.

02:03

Now, in here,

02:03

we can see we have tabs and we're currently looking at the model categories tabs

02:08

and we have them for annotation categories. The analytical model

02:12

imported categories from cad drawings, et cetera

02:16

and also for filters,

02:17

I'll swap back to the model categories

02:20

and looking at the first column here, we can see it's titled visibility.

02:23

And beneath this, we have all of the different model categories listed

02:27

and we also have a check box here to toggle their visibility.

02:31

So looking at that list, I can see casework near the top here.

02:34

So let's uncheck that because we know we need to switch that one off.

02:38

And now as the list is quite long, we'll go up to the top here and

02:42

we can search for the category name. So as I start to type in furniture,

02:46

we can see the list get filtered

02:49

and now we can just uncheck

02:50

the visibility toggle next to furniture.

02:53

So now I'll go back to the search box here and start to type in plumbing.

02:57

Once again, we can see that this filtered.

02:59

So we'll uncheck the visibility of the plumbing fixtures.

03:03

Now we'll click, OK, to close the visibility graphic overrides.

03:08

And now in the view, we can see that the furniture

03:11

and the plumbing fixtures and also the casework has been switched off.

03:15

However, we didn't uncheck the speciality equipment. So

03:18

an alternative way of doing that

03:20

is to select it in the view here.

03:22

And now from the right click menu, we can choose hide in view

03:26

and then category

03:28

and that has the same effect as uncheck in the visibility toggle

03:32

in the visibility graphic overrides.

03:34

So zoom in out,

03:36

I can see that we also have a section marker in the view

03:38

and we want to switch that off. So

03:40

I'll select it

03:42

and from the right click menu,

03:43

if we go to the top here, we can see we can repeat the hide category command.

03:47

So we'll pick this

03:49

and the category of section markers will be switched off.

03:53

Now, zooming in closer to the model, we can see we have the grid lines here

03:57

and we'd like to change the way that they display

03:59

so that they're not quite so prominent in the view.

04:02

So to do this, I'll go to the view ribbon tab and from the graphics panel here,

04:06

we'll click visibility, graphics

04:09

and now we'll swap to the annotation categories here

04:13

and we can start to scroll down the list of categories.

04:17

And here we can see grids.

04:19

Now, I won't uncheck the visibility.

04:21

I'll go across to the columns here and I'll check the option for half time

04:26

and now we'll click OK to close down the visibility settings.

04:30

And we can see now that those grid lines have faded

04:32

by 50% which is the effect that the half tone has

04:35

and they're now not so prominent within the view.
