All foundations can either be bearing or retaining.
00:07
This is controlled with the structural usage family parameter.
00:10
A bearing wall foundation would always be centered about the
00:13
wall and have a simple width and foundation thickness.
00:17
However,
00:17
a retaining wall foundation has the addition of a
00:20
hill and toe length which can provide eccentricity.
00:24
Wall foundations can have a default end extension length set
00:27
to control the projection of the foundation beyond the wall.
00:31
This can also be overridden for each instance with the end control grips,
00:36
all foundations have the option to be broken at inserts if required,
00:40
this will force the foundation to stop when a door
00:43
or window is leveled with the bottom of the wall.
00:47
It's also worth remembering that the default and extension link,
00:54
let's begin by opening up the structural plan site
00:58
in the project browser under structural plans. Go ahead and open up the sites plan.
01:03
We'll begin by changing the properties of our wall foundation along grid. A
01:08
let's zoom up on this wall foundation in here
01:12
and we'll begin by selecting our wall foundation
01:16
in the properties pallet in the type selector.
01:18
We'll note here that this current wall foundation is bearing footing,
01:25
Let's now select edit type
01:27
in the type properties dialog box.
01:29
We'll select duplicate to create a new wall foundation type
01:33
here. We would amend the name.
01:35
This will become 36 inch by 36 inch here and I'll just remove the two at the end.
01:41
And now if we look under dimensions,
01:43
we can see that we have a width which is currently set to 3 ft.
01:46
And here we have a foundation thickness of 1 ft.
01:50
I'm going to change this to 3 ft.
01:53
Also notice here we have a default end extension length.
01:57
It's quite usual for a wall foundation to
01:60
extend beyond the footprint of our structural wall.
02:03
So here I'm going to set this to six inches.
02:06
Also,
02:07
we want to ensure here that the foundation is using the correct grade of concrete.
02:11
So here you can see that we have our structural
02:12
material which is currently concrete cast in place gray.
02:16
We'll select this and here we'll select the
02:19
browse button to go into the materials browser
02:22
in the materials browser.
02:24
We'll select concrete normal weights for K si and select OK.
02:30
We can now select OK to the type properties dialog
02:32
box and we can clearly see our wall foundation change.
02:36
Notice the extension beyond the wall footprint.
02:39
Let's also investigate this in the 3d view.
02:42
We'll select 3D foundations
02:45
and we'll now rotate the view round and we can now clearly see our foundation has
02:50
got deeper and it's also used in the same concrete grade as our other foundations.
02:57
Ok. Let's now investigate another wall foundation.
02:60
While we're in the 3d view,
03:01
you can see here where we have this wall and the door opening,
03:05
we have our wall foundation underneath.
03:06
But notice that the wall foundation is broken about the door opening.
03:11
This is not normally desirable. So let's see how we can amend this.
03:15
We'll select the wall foundation
03:17
and in the property's pallet in the type selector,
03:20
you'll note here we're using bearing footing 36 inch by 12 inch.
03:24
Let's select edit type
03:27
in the type properties dialog box.
03:29
The first thing we'll do is change the grade of concrete.
03:32
So once again, we can browse to the materials browser
03:35
and here we can choose our four K si concrete grade
03:39
and select. Ok.
03:41
Notice under dimensions we have do not break inserts.
03:45
We're going to select that by putting a check into the check box and selecting. Ok.
03:50
You'll now notice that the foundation is no longer broken about the opening.
03:55
The wall foundation can break if we have a door or a window at the bottom of the wall.
03:60
Ok. Let's now return back to our sight plane
04:04
in the site plan. We'll zoom up on that same wall configuration
04:08
and we can see here. Currently, this is a concrete wall.
04:11
Let's select that wall and in the properties pallet in the type selector,
04:15
we're going to swap this out for brick on metal stud.
04:19
So we'll go ahead here and select brick on metal stud.
04:24
Now, of course,
04:24
here you can see that the war foundation is still remaining centered about that war
04:29
on the view control toolbar. I'm going to change the detail level from course to fine
04:34
and we can clearly see here that on this composite wall, we have brick work over here,
04:38
but then the rest of it is metal studding.
04:41
Ideally, we want the foundation to be centered about the brick work.
04:45
So what we're going to do here is select the foundation.
04:48
If we look at the instance, properties, we can see here that we have eccentricity.
04:52
So here I'm going to set this
04:54
to 0.41 and that's now the center of our brick wall.
04:59
Of course,
04:59
this still wants to be a bearing footing as opposed to a retaining footing.
05:03
But you can see here with the in instance, property,
05:05
we can simply shift that foundation around the center line of the wall.
05:10
Also note that we have a number of read only dimensions such as length, width,
05:14
elevation at top elevation at bottom and volume.
05:17
These can of course appear in schedules if desired.
05:21
Finally, we'll take a look at our retaining wall foundation.
05:24
So let's go ahead and select one of these foundations here.
05:27
And if we go ahead into the properties pad it and select edit type,
05:31
we can clearly see here that we have structural usage.
05:34
This can either be set to bearing or retaining.
05:37
If I set this one to bearing, you'll notice.
05:40
Now the dimensions change and we have now a width and a foundation thickness.
05:45
Of course, here, that foundation would then be centered about the wall.
05:49
If I change this to a retaining footing,
05:52
you can see here that we get a toe length hill length and our foundation thickness,
05:57
this automatically creates an eccentric foundation,
06:00
but the structural usage is still set to retaining.
06:04
OK. Go ahead and select. OK.
06:06
Finally,
06:07
we'll look at how we can use the instance
06:08
properties to change the length of the foundation.
06:11
So here I'm going to select this wall foundation
06:14
and notice here that we have a grip at each end of the wall foundation.
06:18
Now we've just seen that if we edit the type properties,
06:20
we can change the default to end extension length.
06:23
But what I might want to do is change that just for one wall foundation.
06:27
So here you can see that we have this grip at the end of the wall foundation,
06:31
I can simply drag this to change the length.
06:34
So in this example, here, I might be looking at 18 inches or obviously 1.5 ft
06:39
and you can now see the wall foundation has extended.
06:42
OK.
06:43
So in summary,
06:44
you can see that we have many tools to
06:45
change the type and instance properties of our wall foundation
