In some additive manufacturing processes, supports are required to improve the structural integrity of parts,
00:10
ensuring that they are accurately and successfully built.
00:13
Netfabb offers a variety of automation tools,
00:16
including support scripts, to automatically detect critical angles and generate supports for your part,
00:22
as well as other tools to help you optimize your support structure.
00:26
Here, you see a part within the Support module,
00:29
which is accessed from the main menu by selecting Home > Support > Generate Supports.
00:37
To generate supports using one of the automated scripts, select a part, and then, in the context view, click Run Support Script.
00:46
The Choose Support Script dialog opens, where you have the option to select from preconfigured scripts.
00:53
Here, the DLP support script is selected.
00:57
Click Execute, and then watch as supports are automatically generated for the part.
01:03
Now, you can review the results, and then click Apply support to apply the supports to your part.
01:11
Open the Choose support script dialog again, where there are a variety of support scripts available.
01:18
For example, you can apply scripts for Bar Supports and Volume Supports
01:23
to meet the needs of different applications and materials.
01:27
Additionally, you can create your own scripts.
01:30
In the context view, select Create Supports,
01:34
and then adjust the support properties to meet your needs.
01:38
In this example, Adaptive Lattice Bars is selected and added.
01:43
From here, you can then customize the supports to increase the structural strength
01:48
and ensure that they can easily be removed simultaneously.
01:51
When you are finished editing the properties, click Execute to generate the supports, then click Apply support.
01:59
Once you find the right settings for your application,
02:02
you can store it in a support script and then automatically apply it to multiple features or the entire build platform.
02:09
With the parts selected, select Home > Prepare > Run Script > Run Support Script,
02:16
and then choose the script to generate supports efficiently and effectively.
02:21
With more complex models, you may need to make manual adjustments to support structures.
02:27
For example, using geometric feature detection,
02:31
you can manually select faces or edges and place individual supports in that region.
02:36
In this case, after selecting Respect face groups,
02:41
right-click a face and select Create volume support on cluster,
02:49
then right-click an edge and select Edge with polyline support.
02:54
The created supports can be manipulated to avoid part-to-part contact in real time and in 3D.
03:01
First, right-click a support, select Edit entity, and set the Angled block support to Yes.
03:08
Click OK, and now, you can use the angle control gizmo to angle the support away from the part.
03:15
Storing the supports as parametric entities enables you to easily make small corrections without replicating your efforts,
03:22
resulting in time saved and streamlined workflows.
