Place walkways in your traffic simulation model in InfraWorks
Add walkways to your traffic simulation model in InfraWorks Mobility Simulation.
Transcript
00:03
Once you set up a traffic simulation model in InfraWorks,
00:07
you can combine it with people movement to simulate their interaction with cars.
00:12
The first step to adding pedestrian movement to your model is to place walkways.
00:18
Begin in the InfraWorks Mobility Simulation application window, with your traffic simulation animation playing.
00:25
Orient the model to plan view by clicking the top of the View Cube, and be sure you are working in Orthographic mode.
00:34
To add a walkway, right-click the location you want and select Walkway > New Walkway at Cursor.
00:41
This opens the New Walkway dialog, where you can specify the name, route class, and measurements of the walkway.
00:50
In this example, the width and length are already set to Standard Walk sizes, so just click OK.
00:57
The new walkway appears and is actively selected, with relevant data also displayed.
01:03
Press ESC to deselect it.
01:06
The walkway now appears as two vertical lines.
01:09
From the plan view, the walkway seems to be properly located.
01:14
However, if you rotate the view, you notice that the walkway is clearly not at the correct elevation.
01:20
The elevation was set by InfraWorks based on the traffic model, so you must adjust the walkway elevation manually.
01:27
The easiest way to do this is to check the height of a road and set the walkway to match.
01:33
Return to plan view and zoom in to select one of the roads.
01:38
Then, right-click the road and select Geometry > Change Height.
01:43
The Modify Height dialog box displays, where you see the elevation height is approximately 64 meters.
01:51
Now, right-click the walkway, and again, select Geometry > Change Height.
01:57
This time, in the Modify Height dialog, select Enter Height Manually.
02:03
Then, in the text field, enter “64”, and click OK.
02:08
Rotate the model, and you can see that the walkway is now at the proper elevation.
02:14
Next, turn on the relevant layers.
02:17
Zoom in to the walkway and, from the Tabs panel, open the Layer tab.
02:23
Enable Walk Centerlines, Walk Connections, Handle – End, and Handle – Other.
02:30
With these layers configured, you can now manipulate the walkway.
02:34
Pick and move each end handle to change the location and orientation of the walkway.
02:40
The easiest way to duplicate the walkway is to copy and paste.
02:45
Right-click the walkway and select Edit > Copy.
02:49
Then, right-click it again, and select Edit > Paste.
02:54
This saves you from manually having to change the height of each walkway,
02:58
and gives you an identical walkway at the correct elevation in your model.
03:02
Move the second walkway to its proper location,
03:06
and repeat this process until you have all the walkways placed where you want them in the model.
03:12
Before adding pedestrian movement to your traffic simulation model,
03:16
the last thing you need to do is add crosswalks and connect the walkways.
