In this video,
00:07
let's see how to change states of files involved by
00:10
accessing the change state command in the authoring CAD application,
00:14
such as Inventor,
00:16
AutoCAD,
00:16
etc.
00:20
Let's begin with an example in Inventor.
00:27
I have opened a file from the recent list that was opened from Vault.
00:33
Click on the Vault tab.
00:35
Make sure that you have logged into the Vault.
00:40
Change the state of the file
00:42
right within the Inventor.
00:44
Use the change state option in the Vault ribbon.
00:48
Change State.
00:51
Choose the desired state here.
00:53
You can see the current state of the file
00:56
and the lifecycle definition.
01:00
In this case,
01:01
it is a reviewer
01:03
who has an option
01:04
to send it back to work in progress or to send it for approval.
01:12
Let's assume that
01:13
the reviewer wants to send it back to
01:15
the drafter,
01:17
and recommend some changes as per the issue.
01:31
Just click OK.
01:33
Let's see the status of the file in Vault.
01:43
Was in review,
01:44
refresh.
01:48
See that the status of the file has been changed
01:51
for the selected file.
01:53
The comment can also be seen here.
01:57
Let's look at
01:58
an example in AutoCAD.
02:02
I have a file open here,
02:04
which was recently checked in.
02:09
File is available in Vault
02:11
here,
02:16
And it's in work in progress state.
02:22
Let's change the state.
02:23
The next state available.
02:25
The current state as per the configuration
02:29
of the lifecycle available.
02:32
The possible transition is
02:34
from work in progress to released.
02:38
Let's go ahead,
02:38
click OK.
02:45
Command has been executed.
02:47
Just confirm that,
02:49
the Vault client.
02:56
You can see that the file has been released in Vault.
03:03
Though it is a convenience
03:05
to change state of files from the authoring applications,
03:09
the options are limited.
03:15
Hence, it is a recommended practice
03:18
to always
03:19
use a Vault client
03:21
to change state of a file or assembly so that you have better visibility
03:26
on the dependent files
03:28
and parents as well.

The Change State command in the Inventor Vault add-in allows users to modify a file or group of files to enforce certain behaviors. Examples of states include, Work in Progress, Quick Change, and Obsolete.
Note: You can change the state of files which have been modified in memory as well as files that are checked into the Vault.
You can modify the lifecycle state for a file or group of files to enforce certain lifecycle behaviors (e.g.,Work in Progress, Released, Obsolete) with the AutoCAD Vault add-in.
Behaviors for a particular state can be altered by an administrator in the Autodesk Vault Client.
