Step-by-step Guide

In InfoWorks WS Pro, customizable themes enhance the visibility of results and other model data displayed on a GeoPlan. Themes can be set as a default appearance for network models, exported as IWS files, or saved to the database object.

IMPORTANT: Settings configured within the Properties and Themes dialog box are lost once the current GeoPlan is closed, so it is imperative to save changes properly for future access.

  1. From the Model Group, drag BridgeNet and drop it into the workspace to open the GeoPlan.
  2. Edit a theme to be saved for future use.

To save the theme:

  1. From the Model Group window, right-click Session 02 and select New > Theme Group.
  2. Click OK.
  3. In the GeoPlan, right-click and select Properties & Themes.
  4. In the GeoPlan Properties and Themes dialog box, lower left corner, click Save.
  5. In the Save Options dialog box, select Save to database object.

This option makes the theme retrievable without applying it as a default.

  1. Click OK.

  1. In the Save Theme As dialog box, in the text field, enter a name for the theme, such as “Pipe Materials”.
  2. In the file tree, expand Session 02.
  3. Select Theme Group.
  4. Click Save.

  1. Optional: In the Select Properties to Save dialog box, deselect Properties and Themes, to easily select only the properties to save.

Layer Order refers to the object layers displayed in the Layers and Themes tab of the Properties and Themes dialog box. Leave it deselected for now.

  1. Expand General to save auto labels and tooltip label settings.
  2. Expand Themes.
  3. For this example, under Pipe, select Pipe Materials.
  4. Click OK.

  1. In the GeoPlan Properties and Themes dialog box, click OK.

In the Model Group, under Theme Group, the saved theme displays.

To apply the newly saved theme:

  1. Close the GeoPlan.
  2. Reopen the GeoPlan.
  3. From the Model Group, right-click Pipe Materials and select Open.

  1. In the Docking windows toolbar, click Thematic Key window.
  2. In the Thematic Key, expand Pipe.

Notice that the only rule assigned to the Pipe object layer is the Pipe Materials sub-theme.

To apply the saved theme as an addition to the current theme:

  1. Close and reopen the GeoPlan again.
  2. From the Theme Group, select the Pipe Materials theme.
  3. On the keyboard, press and hold CTRL.
  4. Drag Pipe Materials and drop it into the GeoPlan.
  5. In the Thematic Key, expand Pipe.

Pipe Materials is now added to the list of existing sub-themes, instead of overriding the existing theme.
