Upgrading the database with InfoWorks ICM
Upgrade a database to work with the latest version of ICM.
Step-by-step guide
When first creating a database, the version is specified. By default, the database version matching the instance of ICM is selected. When installing a new version of ICM, a database may need to be updated before it can be opened or before new features are accessible.
IMPORTANT: Database versions are backward compatible only. Before upgrading a workgroup database, it is best practice to create a backup. Also, to prepare for a cloud or workgroup upgrade, ensure that the new version of ICM is available to everyone. After upgrading, the database cannot be opened using an older version of ICM.
To update a database:
- From the File menu, select Database update > Update database.
- In the Open Workgroup Database dialog box, enter the Server name.
- Click Connect.
- Expand the Group drop-down and select the group.
- Expand the Database drop-down and select the database.
- Expand the Update to drop-down and select the desired version.
- Click OK.
- In the confirmation popup, click Yes.
To update a transportable database .icmt file:
- In the File > Database update menu, select Update transportable database.
- Click Browse.
- Navigate to and select the .icmt file.
- Click Open.
To update an older version database, while connected to the database:
- Select Update database to current version.
- Click Yes to confirm.
Note: No other users should be connected to the database during the upgrade process.
