Introducing water quality with InfoWorks WS Pro

Describe the water quality capabilities that can be configured in InfoWorks WS Pro models.


Step-by-step Guide

InfoWorks WS Pro is capable of dynamic water quality modelling, tracking the fate of a dissolved substance in a network over time. In the basic water quality module, a substance can be modelled in two ways: conservative and non-conservative.

Note: Modelling the chemical reactions between various dissolved solutes requires use of the complex water quality module (MSQ).

In addition to chemical transport, the water quality model can calculate:

  1. Changes in the age of water over time throughout the network
  2. The percentage of water reaching a network node that had its origin at a specified ‘trace node’
  3. The dominant source of water reaching the node
  4. Turbidity analysis, used to predict discoloration events

InfoWorks WS Pro considers two transport models: Eulerian and Lagrangian.

Reactions can happen both within the bulk flow and with the material along the pipe wall. To run the water quality module, both the bulk and wall reaction coefficients are required.
