Create a Federated Model – Practice Exercise 

Task 1: Installing Desktop Connector

  1. From the Autodesk Desktop Connector page, download it. 
  2. Install the downloaded file. 
  3. Open the File Explorer window and then click on This PC; the Desktop Connector shows Autodesk Docs as a local drive, as shown below:

Task 2: Creating Federated Model 

  1. Start Autodesk Navisworks. 
  2. From the Home ribbon tab > Project ribbon panel, click Append; the Append dialog box is displayed. 
  3. From the left navigation, click This PC; various mapped drives will be listed in the right pane of the dialog box, as shown below:



  4. Double-click Autodesk Docs > Your Account > Project > Project Files and browse to the folder where the Structure project model is hosted. 
  5. Double-click on the Structure model to append it in Navisworks, as shown below:



  6. Repeat the process to append other discipline models. 
  7. Delete the default viewpoints.  
  8. Create a viewpoint to show the entire model and another viewpoint to show the model without the Architecture discipline, as shown below:

Task 3: Saving the NWF File on Docs 

  1. From the Quick Access Toolbar, click Save
  2. Using the Desktop Connector, browse to the folder in the Autodesk Docs project where you want to save the NWF file. 
  3. Name the file Hospital-Federated and save it.
